Modern Quilt Guild Mini Swap Using Allison Glass

Ready to quilt my mini for the Modern Quilt Guild Mini Swap.   I think I'm going to go for straight lines.  I used my Allison Glass charms from the Allison Glass Charm Swap sponsored by Yvonne at Quilting Jet Girl. 

This is the first time doing flying geese, I really like them.  I used the Make a Mini Quilt pattern from Sharon at Color Girl Quilts.  This was a super easy pattern to make.

I just received my Prize from 'Pat Sloan's Teach me to Machine Quilt'! Book Tour  & Mega Fun Giveaway.  Although I didn't win a signed copy of her book.  I won the wonderful fabric and thread from Pat Sloan's Hometown Girl collection.  Thank you so much Pat!

Now I need to decide what to make with the fabric.  I'm leaning towards Summer Time at the Beach by England Street Quilts.  I really wanted to make the Bailey's Crossing Quilt from SwimBikeQuilt but can't find the pattern.  I've email Katie hopefully she can send me a link.  That would be great.

Well I have to go to amazon and buy Pat's book  'Pat Sloan's Teach me to Machine Quilt'! so I can quilt whatever I make.

Row Along: The Road Home to Baltimore

Whew.... It's Finally here my day to show The Road Home to Baltimore.  It's been a road getting here.  But, I want to thank Marian at Seams to be Sew for letting me, a first timer, participate. Also, thank you to Amy at Sew Incredibly Crazy for making all the behind the scenes work and taking care of all our freebies.   Please check them out.

I grew up in Baltimore, MD.   Baltimore is filled with so many things to see and I had a hard time narrowing down what I wanted to express on my row.   So I decided to focus on the HOME and then some of the favorite things that I enjoy seeing when I go home.

Baltimore hosts a variety of row homes which vary in style and class. Matter of fact Baltimore has more row houses then any state in the US.  In my row the red row houses represent the smaller red brick homes that often housed Baltimore's large African American population which included freemen and slaves during the 1790 - 1800.

The second set of homes represent the colorful homes you may find in the Mt Vernon neighborhoods of the city.  Here home owners paint their homes to match their own character.  No homeowner association here.

Two of our favorite treats in Baltimore our snowballs and crabs.  During the summer you can find a snowball stand all over the city.   My favorite flavor is Red Raspberry & Pineapple & Vanilla (yep three flavors).  In case you didn't know "Baltimore is for Crabs".  Baltimoreans are very particular about crabs.  Put a bushel of crabs on some brown paper and they will be gone in less then an hour.

The last part of my row are the shadows of some of the most popular Baltimore buildings. I put them in purple instead of black because purple is Baltimore Raven's color.  These buildings, in no particular order, Washington Monument, Phoenix Shot Tower, Baltimore Aquarium, Baltimore World Trade Center and USS Constellation (in grey) light the Baltimore skyline at night. My favorite building is the Emerson Bromo-Seltzer Tower. Always providing the correct time for onlookers.

Summer Sensations Blog Hop

Welcome to the final stop of the Summer Sensations Blog Hop.  Today is my stop of the hop.  Thank you Marian at Seams to Be Sew for sponsoring another Blog Hop and letting a newbie like me participate.

When I think of summer I think of camping.  We have already gone camping three times this year.  We just came back from our favorite camping place, Assateague Island National Park, this past Sunday.   We like Assateague Island because we can do our second favorite summer activity which is go to the beach.  So 15 of us piled in cars and went camping on the beach.  We had the best time.

Since my sister-in-law has been asking for a beach blanket forever, I decided to make a beach theme quilt.   I decided to design one myself.  Here's what I came up with.

I originally wanted to do a paper piecing and applique project because I set a goal to do a project using both methods this year.

I fell in love with a sun pattern that I found at www.craftpassion.com so I tried to incorporate it into the pattern, but if I'm going to design my own pattern I should design the whole thing.   So here is my semi final quilt without the sun.

I'm working on taking better pictures of full quilts so here are some closeups.

I was lucky to win a copy of the Crafted Applique method by Lara Buccella.  I used her method to apply the appliques.

Welcome to Opposites Attract Day 5

Finally Here!

Welcome to my stop on the 'Opposites Attract Blog Hop'.  Thank you Marian at Seams to be Sew for organizing this.   When I ran across the invitation to join this hop I thought this would be great for me as a beginner blogger.  I had just decided to participate in my guild's Crayon Challenge so I thought I could do this.   My crayons were Navy Blue, Hot Magenta and Dandelion.  

I immediately new what pattern I wanted to make.    It was the Snowflake Block Tutorial originally designed by Madame Parfait. So here is the matching fabric.

I think the crayons and fabric match up pretty well.  The blue shows darker then it actually is.  OK on to the pattern.

Well the pattern was pretty easy to do.  Here are some pictures of the cutting and stitching.  

Just a note:  I made a mistake between end of Part 1 and beginning of Part 2.   The tutorial didn't mention anything about trimming, but when I went to Part 2 the segments were trimmed (I probably lost a page somewhere).  So I trimmed the segments but I forgot the 1/4 inch seam allowance.

Well a few diamonds are not pointy.   Quilting and a scrappy binding and I'm done.
