Summer Sensations Blog Hop

Welcome to the final stop of the Summer Sensations Blog Hop.  Today is my stop of the hop.  Thank you Marian at Seams to Be Sew for sponsoring another Blog Hop and letting a newbie like me participate.

When I think of summer I think of camping.  We have already gone camping three times this year.  We just came back from our favorite camping place, Assateague Island National Park, this past Sunday.   We like Assateague Island because we can do our second favorite summer activity which is go to the beach.  So 15 of us piled in cars and went camping on the beach.  We had the best time.

Since my sister-in-law has been asking for a beach blanket forever, I decided to make a beach theme quilt.   I decided to design one myself.  Here's what I came up with.

I originally wanted to do a paper piecing and applique project because I set a goal to do a project using both methods this year.

I fell in love with a sun pattern that I found at www.craftpassion.com so I tried to incorporate it into the pattern, but if I'm going to design my own pattern I should design the whole thing.   So here is my semi final quilt without the sun.

I'm working on taking better pictures of full quilts so here are some closeups.

I was lucky to win a copy of the Crafted Applique method by Lara Buccella.  I used her method to apply the appliques.

Thanks for stopping by.  Please check out the other bloggers sharing today with me.  Don't forget to leave a message and participate in the Give-A-Way.

  2. Such a fun quilt! I especially like the chevron rows at the bottom that resemble waves of water. Very clever!

  20. What a cute beach blanket! I'm sure it will be very much loved. Perfect to use the flip flops on it. The sun you showed on the 2nd picture is so fun and unique.

I miss camping, but those days are in the past for me. This old body doesn't like that type of thing anymore sadly. I really should give all that camping gear in our garage to my son who loves camping with his family. He caught that camping gene from me which is great. I'm happy he likes doing that with his family. I think it's a great thing to teach your children to do and go out and enjoy nature that way and connect as a family.
